MARCHE REGION – BEYOND THE BEACHES, THERE ARE MANY CULTURAL ASSETS AND NATURAL SITES TO VISIT.
CULTURE AND HISTORY
If you are tired of being under the umbrella or just being on the beach, in about half an hour you can spend some time in Urbino: university city, historical for Federico II of the family of Montefeltro: a Renaissance village worth visiting.
If you do not have much time, closer to the hotel, there are Mondavio and Corinaldo, medieval villages with various museums including the one of ancient weapons.
The famous sanctuary of the Madonna of Loreto, can be reached in half an hour. There you can see one of the few statues that represent our Holy Virgin with black skin. According to the legend the house of the Madonna of Loreto was brought by the angels, flying from the Holy Land to Loreto at the begins of the 11th century.
Moreover in about half an hour drive you can find Gradara, medieval village where you can visit Paolo and Francesca’s castle known for their romantic and tragic story mentioned in “La Divina Commedia”.
The Frasassi Caves, of limestone formation, are the largest in Europe. They are divided into various rooms and it is really impressive what nature can produce with patience, drop by drop. Fascinating is the sight of the amazing stalagmites, columns that grow from the bottom upwards, and stalactites, that instead descend from the ceiling of the cavities.
